Make the tastiest fresh flat bread from scratch topped with buttery garlic goodness! These flat breads are easy to make. I generally make and pan fry them in bulk and then freeze it. When you want to make them again, just reheating the frozen ones on the pan, and they turn out to taste relatively fresh and not too dried out! These flat breads are very versatile. They taste great just by themselves but can be paired with your favorite protein, veggies, and sauces for that enhanced bite!
Ingredients
- 2 tsp. active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2.75-3 cups of all-purpose flour πΎ
- 1 tsp salt (kosher) π§
- 2 tbps extra-virgin olive oil (+ a little extra for dough resting process)
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2-3 tbps unsalted butter π§
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl (with either a plastic lid or dish towel as cover)
- Fork
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Rolling pin
- Pan
- Brush
Directions
- Add the 1 cup of water into a large mixing bowl. Mix in sugar and yeast and wait for ~5 minutes until it is cloudy and bubbly.
- Put in the flour, salt, and oil, mixing it with a fork until it forms up to a shaggy dough
- In the bowl, now the your hands to form the dough into a ball. I like to roll the ball along any residual dough to reduce dough waste. The residuals should pick right back up as the ball rolls over them.
- Lightly flour your table / cutting board. Kneed for a ~5 min. As you kneed the dough, add more water if too dry and more flour if too wet.
- Lightly oil the original bowl. Place ball back into that and lightly oil the top top of the ball. Cover with plastic lid or dish towel. Let the dough rise for ~1 hour in a warm spot until it doubles in size.
- Take out the dough and put it back onto your cutting board / table. Press down the dough to and then split it into 8 equal balls
- Use a rolling pin to roll each ball into 1/8th inch thick flat breads.
- Pan fry each flat bread on a pan (no oil needed if on a non-stick pan) on medium heat. After the bottom has some brown spots (~2 minutes), flip the bread and cook for ~ 1 minute or enough so that the flat bread is cooked through.
- To make the garlic butter spread, either melt butter in a microwave and throw in chopped garlic or heat the butter on the pan along with the chopped garlic. Note: garlic heat up quickly so if you donβt want it to brown/ blacken too quickly start with low amount of time on the microwave / low heat on the pan.
- Spread the garlic butter using a brush on the flat bread and serve while hot and enjoy!
